While cozying up on a couch together to watch a movie sounds so nice and magical, there’s nothing quite like playing a game together. It encourages bonding, interaction, and quality time unlike anything else. Any one of these games will bring you a night of fun and great memories!
Game Night Idea #1: Rummikub
Rummikub is a classic family game! We love it because it gives our family a chance to sit at the table together and just let loose and have fun. It’s a fast-paced game that is pretty easy to understand, even for younger players! The recommended age is 8 and up, and you can play with 2-4 players.
Game Night Idea #2: Left, Center, Right (aka, LCR)
LCR has become a fan favorite in our house. It’s fast-paced and can be played with a few players, or a crowd. Sometimes we just play for fun, but other times we will spice things up by throwing dollars, candy bars, or scratch-off tickets into the pot. This one is lots of fun, and exciting down to the last move because you never know who’s going to win!
Game Night Idea #3: Ticket to Ride
If your family is a fan of strategy games then you will love Ticket to Ride! It’s recommended for ages 8 and up and can be played with 2-5 players. This game does take a bit longer to play, usually anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour, so this would be a good one to play on a quiet weekend afternoon!
Game Night Idea #4: Telestrations
Telestrations is a super fun and funny drawing game that is great for players aged 12 and up and can be played with 4 to 8 people. Players take turns drawing and guessing different phrases, which always results in hilarious interpretations and lots of laughs.
Game Night Idea #5: Spot It
Spot It is a super quick and fun game to play as a family! You just lay out two cards at a time and try to find the matching symbols. There’s one pair of matching symbols on each set of cards. Whoever finds the match first wins! This is super fun even with little kids and can improve skills like visual perception and focus. This is a great choice if you only have a few minutes left before bedtime and want to spend some quality time together!
Game Night Idea #6: Pop Darts
Pop Darts is a more interactive game that can be played inside or outside! My family has a lot of fun with this one as we try to beat the other team. The pop darts have suction cups at the end of them and can be stuck to flat surfaces like a window, countertop, etc. The point of the game is to try and get your darts as close to the orange target as possible and rack up points before the other team!
Game Night Idea #7: The Chameleon
The Chameleon is a game that requires a little bit of social strategy. It’s a fun one to help you get out of your comfort zone and get creative with your gameplay! The point of the game is to not get caught by the other players when you are the chameleon. Everyone is given a subject and has to give clues about their card, but if you’re the chameleon you do your best to blend in. It only takes about 15 minutes to play one round and can be played with 3-8 players ages 14 and up!
Game Night Idea #8: Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is a must-have for your next family game night! As this game hints with its hilarious name, it is a game that will keep you laughing the entire time. It’s really simple to learn and the rounds last about 10 minutes max. You’re racing each other to get the most matches, but it’s tricky because your mind will play tricks on you! If you’re looking for a game that will give your family a fun night of laughing together, this is it.
Game Night Idea #9: Blank Slate
We found a game that really encourages unity in our family and we love it! It’s Blank Slate. Blank Slate is a game where you write down your best guess to finish a phrase and hope that it matches another person’s guess. It’s fun to see everyone’s answers and it’s especially fun to see who matches and on which rounds. This is a great versatile game because it works with small or large groups of people!
Game Night Idea #10: Skirfy Shaking Swing Ball Game
Get ready to laugh and have a good time with the Skirfy Shaking Swing Ball Game! This can be played inside or outside. It’s so fun to watch and even more fun to let loose and try and shake the balls out of the container before the person next to you does! There are multiple versions of this game, but we love this one because the belt is comfortable to wear and the containers that hold the balls create enough challenge while still finishing the round pretty quickly.
Game Night Idea #11: Five Crowns
Five Crowns is a super fun strategy card game that is similar to Rummikub. Since there are several rounds, this game takes a bit longer to play from start to finish. Each round a number becomes the new wild card, and you’re trying to find your runs and/or matches before the round is over. This game is fun to play even between just a few players but can be played up to 7!
Game Night Idea #12: Taco vs. Burrito
The last game on our family game night gift guide is Taco Vs Burrito! We couldn’t finish our list without adding this fun one! This is a card game that is easy to learn how to play and can be played pretty quickly as well. Each player is trying to build the “most valuable meal” but there are some cards in there that throw you some curve balls!
Game Night Idea #13: Family Conversation Cards
Last but not least, a personal favorite of ours is our very own Family Conversation Cards. We have several different sets of Conversation Cards, but this one is really great for bringing families closer together. The questions will help transform any regular night at home into special moments of connection. This set includes 75 questions that range from light-hearted to more thought-provoking. They’re a great way to grow closer as a family and can be used as a stand-alone activity or alongside any of the games on this list.
